wander & capture: dubai miracle garden

Like every other woman, I love flowers. Hubby thought he'd found just the place to take me to see some - Dubai's Miracle Garden.

We were very excited, and thought we'd spend quite a while there. We decided to go the other weekend and never even checked the website for details, except working hours and directions. I suggest you start with the website itself. You can read the description that says:
"The Miracle Garden contains special vertical and horizontal landscaping designs, each area has special design. The Miracle Garden contains different types of flowers, some flowers are planted first time in the Gulf Region, the garden contains more than 45 million flowers."

The website itself points out to only 3 types of flowers, which are Calendula, Marigold and Petunia. We never spotted more. Different colors - yes, different types - not more than three. A bit odd, if you ask me. The garden is claimed to be the biggest in the world. Maybe. And while we did enjoy our trip, we weren't all that impressed with the pyramid, cube, star, heart and other shaped displays.

It was hot in Dubai (surprise, surprise!), and as the garden is outdoors, we were exposed to the sun at all times. It was hard to breath as is, and we had to walk through the huge crowds of people (with children - in the sun!). Some found small areas of shadow and were picnicking or just sitting around - monitored by members of staff with whistles. Sit closer to a flowerbed and you're whistled at, which I believe is common sense, since it is a display of design. Yet, there were much more of visitors than of staff members, not a fair fight.

The highest flower pyramid in the world is the one on the left.

Bottom line, it wasn't too easy to enjoy the few (frankly, not very tastefully arranged) types of flowers, be it because of the hot weather conditions, overcrowded and not too big of area or the way the designs repeated themselves. What could have been a nice walk in the flower park, was ruined by our high expectations. Even the highest pyramid or the longest wall of flowers couldn't make it better. We got our look, our couple of shots (which were hard to get with all the people around), and we had to get out. Not more than half an hour is enough to view the whole thing, stopping to take pictures included.

Check out that romantic couple having a good time =))
Good Lord, the crowds!!

Pretty!

This reporter says the displays will change each season, we just hope they will get more creative, too.

This is what I loved the most: totally cool upside-down planted flowers in bottles!

There's that longest flower wall in the world!

If you ever get to go, don't forget you hats and umbrellas, my friends! You're gonna need them!

Love,
K
